Kepler Challenge supporting local community

Kepler Challenge supporting local community

When the Kepler Challenge sold out in less than 3 minutes at the beginning of the month, 25 people were relaxed about their places in the world class Mountain run.

Each year the Kepler Challenge opens space early as part of a ‘Charity Challenge’.  All entrants pay $1000 for a place at the starting line and have guaranteed entry for the day.  100% of this entry fee for the 25 Charity Challenge Runners is then distributed to the Te Anau Community.

This year additional funds were allocated in the community.  This included funding for the three schools in the Te Anau Basin and covered additional costs after the 2019 Floods and the subsequent Covid Pandemic left the town and its families reeling.

Additional funds to purchase a new portacom were also approved by the Kepler Challenge Trust board.  This new portacom will advertise the region and is able to be used by other events and businesses but will be a welcome addition to the organising committee as a warm dry base for their race headquarters, health and safety and race management.

For the annual Charity Challenge funds, there were 13 worthy applicants from the community.  The Trust has approved over and above the $25000.00 raised by our Charity Challenge entrants and provided funding for the following groups.

  • Fiordland Climbing Wall

  • Fiordland Vintage Machinery Museum

  • Spirited Women of Te Anau

  • Fiordland Arts Society

  • Te Anau Pony Club

  • Te Anau Bowling Club

“This is a community run event and we are extremely proud to assist local schools and these community groups” says stalwart committee and Trust board member Steve Norris.
