Changes to popular Kids Tryathlon

Changes to popular Kids Tryathlon

Changes to this year’s AMP South Financial Services Kids Tryathlon will mean more children than ever before will be able to get a taste of multisport.

The Southland Triathlon and Multisport Club are running the Kids Tryathlon on Sunday, March 24, utilising a new and improved Invercargill course which is completely offroad.

The emphasis on this event is on giving triathlon, or the individual components, a try.

“It’s totally about fun,” Southland Triathlon and Multisport Club president Ginge Burnett said.

“It is totally offroad, we’ve got a good course. It will still provide a challenge but be good to ride on.”

The minimum swimming standard has been taken out, so any children not confident of taking on the 100m or 200m distances can take part in the ‘splash and dash’ section in the Splash Palace learners pool, which can be walked.

A scooter course based in the Splash Palace carpark has also been included for those who would rather scoot than bike.

Four major spot prizes will be drawn from amongst the entries, while each participant receives a tee-shirt, medal and drink, courtesy of Fonterra.

Entries are available from the Southland Triathlon and Multisport Club website, or from Ride Cycles, Wensley’s Cycles, H&J’s Outdoor World, Splash Palace, Sport Southland and AMP South.
